Overview

‘Marathwada Mitra Mandal'is a Public Charitable Trust. It was established in 1967 by hon'ble Late Shri. Shankarraoji Chavan, Former Home Minister of India, Former Finance Minister of India, and Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The trust has a motto, येथे बहुतांचे हित" (Welfare of Masses), which is an ideal for its institutions. For nearly two decades, the trust opened a hostel for economically underprivileged students from the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. In the year 1985, it established a Commerce College. Since its inception, Marathwada Mitra Mandal has been making a difference in the society through its contribution to education.It has become one of the premier groups of educational institutions in Pune city. Today, more than 12,000 students are studying in the educational institutions run by the Trust in four independent campuses, all in Pune City and suburbs of Pune. Shankarrao Chavan Law College cherishes the memories of MMM’s Founder President, a great parliamentarian, an able-administrator, a visionary political leader and an eminent lawyer, who advocated for Social Justice.He started his career as an advocate but soon gave-up practising law to join the Hyderabad Mukti Sangram. Based on the strength of his qualities and thirst for social development, he was honoured the Chief Ministership of Maharashtra twice, and gradually took a leap to become the Home Minister and Finance Minister of India. He was instrumental in activating the water movement in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. He was an insightful leader with profound wisdom and high moral values, who contributed immensely in building Maharashtra as a progressive State. His fondness for education and a futuristic approach for the welfare of masses led to the establishment of Marathwada Mitra Mandal. In order to honour and inculcate his values, SCLC was established in the year 2003, which is now a premier law college earning many laurels and accolades in the academic spares at national and international level.
